Minister of National Security and Peace, Dr. Horace Chang, has directed the Jamaica Constabulary Force, JCF, to deploy all necessary resources to ensure a thorough investigation into the murder of 10-year-old Shanai Coke.
In a media release on Thursday, Dr. Chang condemned the 10-year-old’s brutal demise.
He sought to assure the family and wider public that the security forces will pursue the matter until justice is served.
Shanai was found dead in Troy District in Trelawny at around 3:30PM on Tuesday.
She was on her way to a nearby shop in the community when she was allegedly abducted.
Her body was found partially nude with the throat slashed.
The main suspect, Delroy Coke, and his father were set upon by an angry mob of residents, and chopped several times.
Delroy, who is Shanai’s cousin, was pronounced dead at hospital.
Dr. Chang says his Ministry will actively review and pursue mechanisms to effectively manage how it deals with sex offenders.
He adds that decisive action will be taken, and the team has been directed to undertake work in this regard.
