Court fines defector $6,700 for helping send money back to North Koreans

A South Korean court fined a North Korean defector over $6,700 for brokering money transfers from other defectors to their families still living in North Korea.

The Seongnam Branch of the Suwon District Court on July 15 imposed a $6,760 (10 million won) fine against Ju Su-yun after she was convicted of violating the Foreign Exchange Transactions Act, according to a copy of the court’s ruling provided Wednesday by her attorney, Kim Myung-chul.
