Prosecutors raid Fidesz servers in move party likens to communist era

Prosecutors’ investigators appeared unannounced on Tuesday at the centre housing the Fidesz servers, with the intention of seizing the party’s entire communications system and databases, the party’s communications director told MTI.

Bertalan Havasi wrote in his statement that nothing like this had happened in Hungary since 1990, the end of communism.

“Authoritarian rule has taken a step up today,” he assessed.

According to Fidesz’s communications director, the Tisza Party’s plan to eliminate Fidesz and resistance to tyranny through political means had failed, and Tisza was now making “an attempt to render Fidesz legally untenable.”

He said Fidesz would yield neither to political nor to legal threats, would not back down, and would stand firm against the violent arbitrariness of the Tisza Party.
