Power cuts continue to affect several localities across Malta, with Enemalta’s live outage map showing electricity disruptions in 10 areas across the island.

The latest outages come just a day after parts of Birkirkara, Balzan and Iklin were left without power following four separate cable faults on the electricity distribution network.

According to Enemalta, Birgu and Kalkara are currently experiencing a high-tension outage. Additional disruptions have been reported in Għargħur, Naxxar, Pembroke, Swieqi, Bormla, Fgura, Tarxien and Żabbar.

The utility company has not yet publicly disclosed the cause of the latest outages. However, it has previously stated that recent power interruptions have been linked to faults on the distribution network rather than a shortage in electricity generation capacity.

The continued disruptions come as Malta experiences sustained high temperatures and increased electricity demand during the peak summer period.

Enemalta has reiterated that the country has sufficient generation capacity to meet demand and continues to invest in strengthening the electricity grid through its ongoing infrastructure upgrade programme.
