Soccer is over, now NJ fans turn their lonely eyes to football

The World Cup ended today when Spain beat Argentina 1-0 to clinch their second-ever World Cup victory.

New Jersey was at the epicenter of it all, as MetLife Stadium, or “New York / New Jersey Stadium,” hosted the final match.

NJ hosted eight matches throughout the entirety of the tournament. The grass surface will be removed, and the turf will be added back for football season.

It’s not a surprise to Giants or Jets fans to say the World Cup Final was the biggest event ever staged in that stadium. The Super Bowl was held there in 2013, but on a grander scale, this trumps that by a mile.

And considering there has only been one playoff game for the Giants or Jets ever played there, the stadium has never really seen any important action.

Looking forward to football in New York is like looking forward to winter in Alaska. Darkness for months. That’s what NJ football fans get. Their teams are typically out of contention by the end of September and then you have four months of watching meaningless football.

With the addition of John Harbaugh becoming the Giants head coach, it feels like there is finally an ‘adult’ in the room within the organization.

The Jets are still in disarray, as seems to be the case every year.

So, will there be more important games played at MetLife Stadium this year? My gut tells me no, but for the sake of NJ football fans, I’ll be praying for you.
