On the first working day of the Fourth Regular Session, both the House and Senate passed concurrent resolutions to take a recess at the end of Tuesday’s session and reconvene on July 27.
According to the resolution in order to preserve legislative session days for most efficient use, it is appropriate to temporarily recess the business of the Legislature to fully prepare for disposition of additional and in-coming agenda items.
KHJ News understands that some of the senators and representatives will be attending committee meetings and the general conference of the Congregational Christian Church of American Samoa.
In the Senate, a resolution for the confirmation of Roy JD Hall Jr., as Administrative Law Judge was introduced. The Senate Judiciary Committee, chaired by Sen. Atualevao Asifoa has scheduled a confirmation for Mr Hall for 8:30 am on July 27th.
Senators and Representatives also approved a Senate Concurrent Resolution conveying the Fono’s condolences for the passing of the late Senator Alo Dr Paul Stevenson. A copy of the resolution was presented to Mrs Sharron Stevenson during the state funeral service for the late senator.
The House also approved a House Concurrent Resolution expressing sympathies for the passing of a former member of the House, Fiu Loia Gutu who occupied the Sua #2 seat in the House during the 36th Legislature. During his term Fiu was chairman of the House Public Works Committee and also Parks and Recreation Committee.
An auditor by profession he was an employee of the Territorial Audit Office for many years and took charge of the office during times when there was no Territorial Auditor.
