Governor Pulaali’i Nikolao Pula has submitted for Fono confirmation, his choice to be the next Commissioner of Public Safety, Lauti Tautalasoo Moliga.
In his letter of nomination to the Fono leaders, the Governor said that Commander Moliga has over 30 years experience serving in the Department of Public Safety. He started in 1994 as a Public Safety Officer. worked his way up the DPS ladder, and was promoted as commander in 2025.
“As part of the rank and file he acquired specific skills which he used to become an instructor to his fellow officers,” the Governor complimented.
Commander Moliga also joined the US Army Reserve and entered active duty status with a tour in Iraq. He eventually separated from the military honorably at the rank of Sergeant. He was awarded numerous citations for meritorious service including a Purple Heart.
At the time of his appointment as Acting Commissioner last Friday, Commander Moliga headed the Executive Detail Division of DPS, providing security for the Governor and Lt Governor. He joined the Governor’s security detail during the administration of Governor Togiola Tulafono.
