NO HIDDEN MOTIVES
1Thessalonians 2:5 “You know we never used flattery, nor did we put on a mask to cover up greed. God is our witness.”
Paul continues to defend the integrity of his ministry. He reminds the Thessalonian believers that he never used flattery to win their favour, nor did he disguise selfish motives behind his preaching. His goal was not personal gain, but the glory of God and the salvation of people.
Flattery says what people want to hear in order to gain something from them. The gospel, however, calls people to repentance, faith, and obedience to Christ. Faithful ministers don’t shape their message to please their audience. They faithfully proclaim God’s truth, even when it’s difficult to hear.
Paul also says that he didn’t use ministry as a cover for greed. God knew his heart. While outward appearances can sometimes deceive people, nothing is hidden from the Lord. He sees every motive and every intention.
This is a challenge for all of us. Whether we serve in public ministry or quietly behind the scenes, we should examine our hearts regularly. Are we serving Christ for His glory, or are we seeking recognition, influence, or personal benefit? God desires sincerity and faithfulness from His people.
May our words always be truthful, our motives pure, and our hearts wholly devoted to the Lord who sees all things.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, search my heart and reveal any selfish motives within me. Help me to speak the truth with love and never seek personal gain or the approval of others. Give me a sincere heart that desires to honour You above all else. May my life reflect integrity and faithfulness in everything I do. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
Have a great day. God bless and lots’a love,
Warren
