Guntur: World Plastic Surgery Day–2026 was celebrated at the Department of Burns, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Government General Hospital, Guntur, under the leadership of Hospital Superintendent Dr Durgaprasad on Wednesday.

Speaking on this occasion, he said the department has grown from a small unit into one of the leading reconstructive surgery centres in AP. He appreciated the successful establishment of the M Ch Plastic Surgery postgraduate programme, which has strengthened patient care, academics and research at GGH and Guntur Medical College.

HoD of Plastic Surgery, Dr Sumita Shankar said the department is committed to restoring dignity and hope for patients. She emphasised that timely referral to a plastic surgeon can save limbs, preserve faces and prevent lifelong disabilities. She added that the department plans to strengthen reconstructive services by establishing advanced microsurgery facilities, including free tissue transfer, vascular reconstruction, and finger and limb replantation, along with a dedicated operating microscope.
