Mamitha Baiju had high hopes for Jana Nayagan, Vijay’s final film as an actor. She believed that sharing screen space with one of Tamil cinema’s biggest stars would significantly boost her career. However, the film turned out to be disappointing, both commercially and in terms of her role.

Although Jana Nayagan posted a respectable worldwide gross, its overall box office performance and audience response fell short of the massive expectations surrounding Vijay’s farewell film.

For Mamitha Baiju, the outcome was even more disappointing. Her character was widely criticised for its weak writing and poor execution. Many viewers unfavourably compared it with Sreeleela’s role in the Telugu original, Bhagavanth Kesari.

The criticism also extended to Mamitha’s performance, with many feeling that she had been let down by an underdeveloped character.

Despite acting alongside Vijay, the film did little to improve her image or career prospects in Tamil cinema.

The young Malayalam actress is now pinning her hopes on another major Tamil star, Suriya.

In Jana Nayagan, she played Vijay’s daughter. In contrast, her upcoming film Vishwanath & Sons features her in a romantic role opposite Suriya, with the story reportedly exploring an age-gap love story.

The film, scheduled for release on August 14, is generating considerable buzz. With a stronger role and greater scope to showcase her acting abilities, Mamitha will be hoping that Vishwanath & Sons gives her the breakthrough in Tamil cinema that Jana Nayagan could not.

Whether her pairing with Suriya changes her fortunes will become clear after the film hits theatres.
