Four homes were destroyed in a fire in Faleniu that started just before midnight on Saturday.
One of the home owners Mrs Toreka Vaeono said the fire started from a home next to theirs and quickly raged through their home and continuing to the other two. She said they were awake and sensed a burning smell. when they came out they saw their neighbor’s house covered with flames.
They called 911 immediately. Mrs Vaeono said when the fire trucks arrived at the scene their neighbor’s house had burned to the ground. She said firefighters tried to put out the blaze in their home but it was too late Their home also burned to the ground.
Only one of the four homes was left standing.
Mrs Vaeono suspects arson was involved. She told KHJ News a couple who lived in the house where the fire started from were seen leaving the house in a hurry that night. She suspects that the couple started the fire and she has relayed this information to authorities.
Mrs Vaeono said while they lost everything she’s thankful that no one was hurt. The fires have displaced 10 people who are now living with relatives.
Mrs Vaeono expressed thanks to the many families, church groups, the Red Cross, Lions Club and individuals who have provided clothes, food, and other supplies for their families. She said people have been so kind and they appreciate all the love and support shown by friends, families and strangers.
