ENTRUSTED WITH THE GOSPEL
1Thessalonians 2:3-4 “For the appeal we make does not spring from error or impure motives, nor are we trying to trick you. On the contrary, we speak as those approved by God to be entrusted with the gospel. We are not trying to please people but God, who tests our hearts.”
Paul defends the integrity of his ministry. Unlike many travelling teachers in the ancient world, he didn’t preach to gain popularity, wealth, or influence. His message was true, his motives were pure, and his methods were honest. He understood that the gospel wasn’t his to change or manipulate. It had been entrusted to him by God.
Paul also reminds us that the ultimate goal of ministry isn’t to please people, but to please God. Human approval is temporary and often changes. God’s approval is what truly matters. Since He alone knows our hearts, we should serve Him with sincerity and faithfulness.
This is an important reminder for every believer. Whether we preach, teach, encourage, serve, or share our faith with others, our responsibility is to be faithful to God’s truth. We must never dilute the gospel to make it more acceptable, nor should we change God’s message to gain the approval of people.
Ask yourself today, “Who am I trying to please?” May our words, our motives, and our lives reflect a wholehearted desire to honour the Lord. We’ve been entrusted with the greatest message the world will ever hear. Let’s handle it with humility, integrity, and faithfulness.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank You for entrusting me with the good news of Jesus Christ. Help me to serve You with pure motives and an honest heart. Keep me faithful to Your Word, and guard me from seeking the approval of people above Your approval. May everything I say and do bring glory to Your name. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
