UN Mission in Libya Welcomes Sirte Meeting and Reaffirms Commitment to Supporting Efforts to Unify the Country’s Military Institution

Tripoli – The United Nations Support Mission in Libya welcomed the military-technical meeting held Sunday in Sirte, which included the chiefs of staff, members of the 5+5 Joint Military Committee, and the 3+3 Joint Committee.

In a statement, the UN mission said the meeting, attended by a delegation led by Stephanie Khoury, Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Political Affairs, represents an important step toward building trust. The mission said it also reflects the commitment of Libya’s leaders to unify the country’s military institutions.

The UN mission praised the constructive efforts of those participating in the meeting and reaffirmed its ongoing support for this national process, which is led and owned by Libyans, through continued international facilitation and coordination.
