South Korean authorities are monitoring whether North Korea has released water from a dam upstream of the inter-Korean border after issuing emergency flood evacuation alerts for residents near the Imjin River on Friday, amid heavy rainfall that has raised concerns about sudden downstream flooding triggered by a DPRK water release.

“We issued an emergency flood evacuation alert today at 6:17 a.m.,” a Social Disaster Division official from Gyeonggi Province told NK News on Friday. The provincial government sent text alerts to residents in border communities, including Yeoncheon County and Paju City, the official said.
