THE Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ)
says 6th July, 2026 was the cut-off date for candidate resignations for the 2026 General Election as ballot printing has started.
In a public notice dated 9th July, 2026, ECZ Corporate Affairs Manager Patricia Luhanga said ballot paper printing for National Assembly, Mayoral/Council Chairperson and Councillor elections commenced on 6th July.
As a result, candidates who submitted resignations after 6th July, or who resign after that date, will still have their names appear on ballot papers.
“However, such candidates will no longer be eligible to contest the election, notwithstanding the appearance of their names on the ballot papers,” Luhanga said.
The Commission said where a ballot paper contains the name of a candidate who has subsequently resigned, a Local Notice will be issued to clarify that such candidate is no longer eligible.
ECZ has urged all candidates and members of the public to take note of the information.
