Representatives of Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan held a working meeting on riverbank reinforcement in the border areas of Batken region, the Batken district administration reported.

The meeting was held at the initiative of the Kyrgyz side in the border areas of Tangi and Dacha. It was attended by the first deputy heads of districts of both countries, as well as heads of relevant agencies.

The parties discussed the possibility of using soil and crushed stone generated during the construction of a neutral road by the Tajik side in Dachа area to reinforce both banks of Ak-Suu River. Work is planned for the section from Dacha to Golovnoy water intake.

Furthermore, the parties agreed to reinforce the riverbank on Kapchygai-Tangi section. Due to rising water levels, there is a risk of bank erosion and river channel changes. Specialized equipment is currently working on the site.

The head of the Water Resources Department of Batken district called on the Tajik side to accelerate the riverbank reinforcement work.
