Justice Minister, Delroy Chuck, is urging motorists not to abuse the court system by putting off paying their unpaid traffic tickets.

He was speaking at a media briefing at the Transport Ministry’s head office in New Kingston on Thursday.

Data revealed that 1.1 million traffic tickets remain outstanding before the courts.

Minister Chuck says courts across the Corporate Area are burdened with half of these cases.

As a result, a September 30 deadline has been set for motorists with outstanding traffic tickets to clear their records.

The Court Administration Division will also host traffic ticket public days on July 8 and 9 to allow drivers to rectify their ticket violations.

Minister Chuck says more than 40,000 traffic tickets have been registered for the two-day event.
