Japan evacuates over 2 million residents across 13 prefectures due to typhoon and heavy rain

AKIPRESS.COM – Japanese authorities have evacuated 2.23 million residents across 13 prefectures, stretching from Kyushu and Okinawa to Kinki region, due to torrential rains triggered by Typhoon No. 7 and a seasonal rain front.

The Fire and Disaster Management Agency reported that western Japan has been hardest hit, with three injuries recorded in Kagoshima Prefecture and at least 25 buildings flooded across Fukuoka and Kagoshima. Local authorities have issued a Level 4 landslide warning for portions of Chugoku region and northern Kyushu as the severe weather continues to impact the country.

According to weather service Tenki, Typhoon No. 7 is currently about 230 kilometers southwest of Amami, moving northeast at a speed of 15 km/h with maximum central wind speeds reaching 23 m/s. It is projected to pass around 140 kilometers southwest of Yakushima.

A second storm, Typhoon No. 8, is tracking south of Japan at 30 km/h and is forecast to pass within 160 kilometers of Shionomisaki around midnight local time.
