David Smith, the admitted triggerman in the killing of 10-month-old Sarayah Paulwell and her mother, 27-year-old Toshyna Patterson, is to be sentenced on July 24.

The date was set when the matter was called up in the Supreme Court on Wednesday.

Smith pleaded guilty on June 10.

In March 2024, he was served with a notice of intention to seek the death penalty by then Director of Public Prosecutions, Paula Llewelyn.

Patterson and her infant daughter were kidnapped and murdered on September 9, 2023.

Prosecutors say Smith was the gunman and allege that he was handed the weapon by co-accused Bjorn Black, who instructed him to shoot both victims.

The Crown also said that Smith used his phone at the scene to take and send images of the victims to the alleged mastermind, Leoda Bradshaw, at her request.

Two other men, Richard Brown and Roshane Miller, previously pleaded guilty and were sentenced in 2023.

Meanwhile, Bradshaw appeared in court in person, while her co-accused Bjorn Black and Roland Balfour appeared via video link.

They are jointly charged with murder, conspiracy to murder, kidnapping, conspiracy to kidnap, and illegal possession of a firearm.

The Crown indicated it is ready to proceed to trial.

A trial date of September 28 had been set, but a trial readiness hearing is now scheduled for September 17.

All three accused remain in custody.
