France Too Strong for Iraq in Convincing 3-0 Win

France overcame a lengthy weather delay in Philadelphia to secure a convincing 3-0 victory over Iraq and strengthen their grip on Group I.

After lightning forced the match to be suspended at half-time, Les Bleus returned with the same authority they had shown before the interruption.

Kylian Mbappé opened the scoring in the first half before adding a second after the restart, taking his FIFA World Cup tally to 16 goals and drawing level with Miroslav Klose on the all-time scoring charts.

Iraq battled hard and fashioned a few opportunities of their own, but France’s quality ultimately proved too much. A third goal in the closing stages put the result beyond doubt as Didier Deschamps’ side completed a professional performance.

The victory leaves France progress to the Round of 32.
