Pakatan Harapan unveils Johor poll line-up as Anwar bets on blend of experience and new blood | Malaysia

PAKATAN Harapan (PH) has named a diverse slate of 56 candidates for the 16th Johor state election, combining parliamentary representatives, former state executive councillors, incumbents and political newcomers as the coalition seeks to regain control of the state.

PH chairman and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced the line-up at Bukit Gambir Extreme Park on Monday evening before thousands of supporters and the coalition’s top leadership.

Among the headline candidates are Pulai MP Suhaizan Kayat, who will contest the Larkin state seat, and Batu Pahat MP Onn Abu Bakar, who has been nominated for Senggarang.

Former Education Minister Dr Maszlee Malik will stand in Puteri Wangsa, while former Johor executive councillors Mohd Khuzzan Abu Bakar and Dzulkefly Ahmad have been retained in Semerah and Kota Iskandar respectively.

The coalition has also fielded several rising party figures, including Johor Angkatan Muda Keadilan (AMK) chief Faezuddin Puad in Kempas and Johor PKR information chief Mohd Fakharuddin Moslim in Pasir Raja.

A number of fresh faces have also been introduced, including Noraziah Yazid (Buloh Kasap), Jalex Lee En Xiang (Pemanis), Tay Yok Jiun (Bekok), Mohd Nor Mohd Yusof (Gambir), Mohd Afif Abd Hamid (Kemelah), Ayna Soraya Badaruddin (Sungai Balang), Hisyamuddin (Sri Medan), Yong Hu Yi (Yong Peng), Ramli Hamid (Semarang), Ezam Md Taslim (Parit Yaani), Shazwan Dzainal Abidin (Parit Raja) and Felicia Poh Rui Ling (Penggaram).

Several candidates have also been reassigned to different constituencies. Elia Nadira Sabudin moves from Bukit Pasir to Tenang, while Muhammad Taqiuddin Che Man shifts from Mahkota to Maharani.

Among the incumbents retained are Ee Chin Lin in Tangkak, Ng Yak Howe in Bentayan and Ir Nazri Abdul Rahman in Simpang Jeram.

Other candidates announced include Danish Hossman Abd Rahman (Johor Lama), Mohd Sawaludin Salleh (Penawar), Faizul Abdul Ghani (Tanjung Surat), Nor Zulaila Abd Ghani (Tiram), Lee Wern Yiing (Johor Jaya) and Teo Siew Hui (Permas).

Addressing party members after unveiling the candidates, Anwar said selecting the final line-up had been a demanding process given the depth of available talent.

“I requested everyone to give their very best.”

The Prime Minister, who is also PKR president, said the coalition had identified more than 1,000 qualified individuals before narrowing the list to 56 candidates representing PKR, DAP and Amanah.

He stressed that the final selection reflects PH’s commitment to balancing renewal with experience as it prepares for a crucial electoral contest.

The Election Commission has fixed June 27 as nomination day, July 7 for early voting and July 11 as polling day. – June 23, 2026
