Yesterday marked an important milestone in Lesotho’s public sector reform journey as Prime Minister Sam Ntsokoane Matekane handed over certificates to participants who successfully completed the Executive Leadership Coaching Programme. The programme began in 2023 through a partnership between the Government of Lesotho and the United Nations Development Programme UNDP. It was designed to strengthen leadership capacity across senior levels of government. The ceremony highlighted the government’s continued focus on improving how public institutions operate. It also reflected a broader commitment to building a more accountable and results-driven state. The event brought attention to leadership development as a central pillar of national transformation.
The Executive Leadership Coaching Programme went beyond traditional training models and focused on practical leadership development. Over six intensive coaching sessions, senior government leaders received structured guidance aimed at improving decision making and institutional performance. The sessions also focused on strengthening coordination between ministries and improving collaboration across government departments. Participants were equipped with tools to enhance service delivery and manage public resources more effectively. The programme emphasised accountability and results based leadership across all levels of administration. It also encouraged leaders to apply lessons directly within their institutions to improve real world outcomes.
Government leadership has consistently stated that Lesotho already has the necessary systems, laws and institutions required for development. The main challenge has been ensuring that these systems function effectively and deliver meaningful results for citizens.
