Over 100 roads rehabilitated under SPARK

Minister of Works Robert Morgan, says a record number of roads have been rehabilitated under the government’s Shared Prosperity through Accelerated Improvement Road Rehabilitation, SPARK, programme.

Making his contribution to the Sectoral Debate earlier this week, Minister Morgan, says well over 100 roads have been addressed with hundreds more in the pipeline.

SPARK is a major multi-billion dollar islandwide road rehabilitation initiative launched by the government.

The massive capital investment project is designed to comprehensively modernize the nation’s ageing infrastructure, fix decades of road neglect, and drive localized economic growth.

It officially kicked off on December 31, 2024.

However, many Jamaicans have expressed concern about how long it’s taking for the road repairs to be completed.

Minister Morgan says the government is aware of the concerns. But he points out that SPARK is not merely a patching programme.

He says the work being done under SPARK is to make the country’s road infrastructure more resilient.
