Tone At The Top
Employees of the Department of Health support their Minister because, as someone who came out of the system, he always has their back. That relationship hit a bit of a glitch when he deflected attention away from the real problems of his department and accused his own staff of stealing and selling pharmaceuticals-nobody was every charged or convicted. But he is a master of deflection. Now he is upset with the Australian media organisation Dateline for visiting POMGH without permission. He accuses them of abusing patient rights. Well Minister, we are sure the patients have no issues with anyone, foreign or domestic, abusing their rights and highlighting the inadequacies within your major referral hospital. Please fix the problems and stop deflecting from the real issues. The public are tired of it and are no longer fooled by the bluster.
Colosseum
What an incredibly laughable saga and it may not be over yet. The Unity Games in Mendi have finally been canned or have they? They were supposed to go to Wewak but the government seems to be throwing shade on that now. Where did the millions go to build stadia in Mendi? The Chinese can build a complete train station in nine days and the Colosseum in Rome apparently had a retractable roof operated by a crew of sailors! But just too hard in Mendi?
Trolling FIFA
Most PNG’s would not have a hope in hell of affording travel to the US to watch the World Cup. But Canadian airline Transat has come up with a great idea that pokes fun at the greedy soccer body. Instead of paying thousands to watch one match, say against Brazil , they will sell you an airline ticket to the country for a fraction of the cost -$749 versus $7000 ! So instead of 90 minutes of football you get to enjoy a vacation, see new sites, visit tourist attractions, taste the local food, meet the local people and catch much more atmosphere by watching the game in a bar surrounded by frenzied Brazilian fans! Sounds like a deal to us?
From Horses Mouth
The new Esa’ala vessel is an impressive beast and should improve the lives in the electorate. But would be nice to see the agreement the DDA has signed with the Lae shipping company, IROK, to operate the vessel and we are sure the arrangement is fair and above board. But it is public money so the operational expenses and cash outflows on the vessel should be public knowledge. The Auditor General and DoF should be asking the questions. Or maybe the pressure is off for those operating the vessel? The sponsoring Member publicly announced the “vessel was not supposed to make a profit as you are not supposed to use public funds to make a profit. ” Really? Kind of hard to run a business and pay your bills if you’re not making a profit, Member!
Bring In The Clowns
The song starts like that but ends with ” don’t worry they are here! ” Elections worldwide have taken a lurch to the right. Normal party preferences are in turmoil. The emergence of Trump seems to have really given license to the lunatics that up to now have been afraid to put their hands and heads above the wall. What will that bring us in 2027? Are the crazies waiting in the wings in PNG ready to enter stage right?
Mosquito Attack
This should concern us all. Research has shown that mosquitoes are developing resistance to insect repellents. Apparently they are relating repellents to food. Brings a new meaning to being eaten alive by mozzies! Cover up folks or you could be on the menu.
