Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The US Energy Information Administration (EIA) announced on Sunday that the United States did not buy any oil from Iraq in the past week, following a previous supply of 107,000 barrels the week before.
According to the EIA, Canada accounted for the majority of the United States’ crude oil imports over the past week, with an average of 3.71 million barrels per day, followed by Venezuela with 535,000 barrels per day, Mexico with 249,000 barrels per day, Ecuador with 169,000 barrels per day, and Brazil with 133,000 barrels per day.
The United States imported 71,000 barrels per day of crude oil from Saudi Arabia and 1,000 barrels per day from Colombia, with no oil imports from Iraq, Nigeria, and Libya, local news outlet Shafaq News reported.
Iraq’s weekly oil exports to the United States have fluctuated over the last few weeks, hitting 100,000 barrels per day in the first week of May and 67,000 barrels per day in the second week, with Iraqi supplies completely stopped in the third week before they rise again to 107,000 barrels per day in the first week of June.
The United States consumes over 20 million barrels of oil each day, making it the world’s largest consumer.
