PMC clears encroachment over IOC pipeline corridor at Kareli | Prayagraj News

The Encroachment Task Force (ETF) of the PMC on Friday carried out a major anti-encroachment drive at Kareli, Prayagraj: Acting on a request from the Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) for clearance of a 60ft-wide gas pipeline stretch, the Encroachment Task Force (ETF) of the Prayagraj Municipal Corporation (PMC) on Friday carried out a major anti-encroachment drive at the Shahnai Guest House complex in Kareli, removing structures that were obstructing the designated pipeline corridor.According to in-charge of the ETF, Col Dinesh Tanwar, the operation was undertaken following requests made by the Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) to the district magistrate and the municipal commissioner, Prayagraj, seeking clearance of the route passing through the area.During the drive, the team encountered resistance from a group of lawyers representing the guest house management. They argued that ownership of the 60-ft stretch remained with the establishment and maintained that no permanent building, well or major structure had been constructed on the land. Discussions were also held regarding provisions of the Indian Oil Pipelines Act, 1962, and the rights associated with the pipeline corridor.Col Tanwar said the ETF team explained the legal position and the importance of maintaining an obstruction-free passage over the gas pipeline. After detailed discussions, the team was able to convince the parties concerned and went ahead with the operation. The anti-encroachment squad subsequently removed all temporary and semi-permanent structures that were blocking the thoroughfare. The objective was to ensure safe access and compliance with safety norms related to the underground gas pipeline infrastructure. The operation concluded after the entire stretch was cleared and inspected.“The area was restored to the satisfaction of IOC officials, following which the team returned,” said Col Tanwar.
