Court sentences conscript who passed information on Defense Forces in Zaporizhzhia region to GRU

The court sentenced a Russian military intelligence agent, who was exposed in the Zaporizhzhia region last July, to 15 years in prison with confiscation of property.

According to Ukrinform, the Security Service of Ukraine reported this.

The convicted man was mobilized into a local military unit. Based on evidence gathered by the SSU, the court found him guilty under Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine—treason under martial law.

The investigation established that the suspect passed information to Russian invaders about his battalion and adjacent units of the Ukrainian Defense Forces. The enemy’s intelligence services focused on data regarding the deployment, strength, and armament of Ukrainian troops in the Zaporizhzhia sector.

The investigation also revealed that the man had made photocopies of documents for the Russians regarding the deployment of new units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on the southern front.

The SSU exposed the enemy agent, documented his crimes, and detained him. The locations of Ukrainian defenders within the enemy’s reconnaissance zone were secured.

It turned out that the traitor was part of a Russian spy ring, which the SSU neutralized along with the exposure of the “mole.” In addition to him, a resident of the enemy cell—the rector of a local church of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate—was detained at that time. According to the investigation, the latter worked for the 316th Intelligence Center of the Main Directorate of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation.

Earlier, the SSU had exposed a third accomplice, who is already serving a prison sentence for coordinating Russian military strikes on Zaporizhzhia.

During searches, law enforcement officers found phones and computer equipment on the detainees containing evidence of intelligence gathering and contacts with Russian invaders.

As reported by Ukrinform, a Russian agent who tracked the coordinates of military facilities and coordinated strikes on Cherkasy was sentenced to up to 15 years in prison with confiscation of property.
