Crown Princess Kako attends exchange meeting with women with hearing impairments from Kyrgyzstan
AKIPRESS.COM – Crown Princess Kiko and her daughter Princess Kako attended an exchange meeting with women with hearing impairments from Kyrgyzstan at Tsukuba University of Technology in Tsukuba, Ibaraki Prefecture, on Saturday, The Japan News reported.
The event was organized by the university and the Japan International Cooperation Agency Tsukuba Center to promote the social participation of deaf people from Kyrgyzstan through exchanges with local residents.
Princess Kako conversed with them using sign language, asking questions such as “What do you value most in the various things that you do?”
Crown Princess Kiko is the spouse of Fumihito, Crown Prince Akishino, who is the younger brother of Japan’s current Emperor Naruhito. She was not born a princess; prior to her marriage, she was known as Kiko Kawashima and came from a family of university professors.
The Crown Princess and her daughter, Princess Kako, have participated for many years in events aimed at supporting individuals with hearing impairments. Princess Kako is well known for studying Japanese Sign Language and regularly uses it during official meetings with deaf individuals. Kiko has also mastered the basics of sign language through her public and charitable activities.
