Dbeibeh stresses regional coordination in meeting with Nigerien premier

Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dbeibeh reaffirmed Libya’s commitment to supporting Niger and strengthening bilateral cooperation during talks on Monday with Nigerien Prime Minister Ali Lamine Zeine.

According to the Government of National Unity’s media office, the meeting focused on enhancing relations between the two neighbouring countries and expanding cooperation across a range of areas of mutual interest.

Dbeibeh highlighted the longstanding historical ties between Libya and Niger, stressing the importance of joint efforts to address shared challenges and promote development and stability across the region.

The two sides discussed opportunities to strengthen economic and investment partnerships, as well as support regional connectivity and infrastructure projects aimed at advancing the interests of both countries.

Talks also covered a number of regional and security issues, including border security, combating transnational organised crime and addressing challenges linked to irregular migration. Both leaders underscored the importance of closer coordination between their respective institutions to support regional stability.

The meeting further explored opportunities to expand technical and institutional cooperation and establish more effective mechanisms for following up on priority issues, with the aim of deepening the Libyan-Nigerien partnership.

At the conclusion of the talks, the two sides agreed to reactivate the Libyan-Nigerien Joint Higher Committee and continue coordination between the relevant institutions in both countries to advance joint programmes and projects of mutual interest.
