Officers of the State Committee for National Security of Kyrgyzstan (SCNS) conducted a special operation to neutralize active members of the international terrorist organizations Khatiba al-Tawhid wal-Jihad and the Islamic State. The SCNS press center reported.
The special operation was supervised in real time by SCNS Chairman Zhumgalbek Shabdanbekov from the Situation Center.
According to him, the extremists were planning a terrorist attack against law enforcement officers and religious leaders.
An anti-terrorist operation was declared in the cities of Osh and Kyzyl-Kiya, as well as in Kara-Suu district and the village of Uch-Korgon in Kadamdzhai district. Police officers, the Border Service, the Ministry of Defense, the Ministry of Emergency Situations, the Ministry of Health, presidential envoys to the regions, and the mayor of Osh participated in the operation.
As a result, 31 suspects were detained—11 in Osh region and 20 in Batken region.
During the searches, religious extremist literature, electronic media containing extremist materials, four unregistered firearms, symbols of terrorist organizations, and funds intended for financing foreign terrorist underground organizations were discovered.
Zhumgalbek Shabdanbekov ordered to ensure safety of citizens,to to check the connections of the detainees and their possible accomplices, and identify funding channels.
«The special operation was conducted in strict compliance with the law. The Main Investigative Department of the SCNS is currently conducting investigative and operational activities,» the statement reads.
