Feeding SD gets milk donation from Prairie Farms

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) —While milk is an important grocery item to Feeding South Dakota, it’s something that isn’t always donated.

“Getting items like fresh milk is not something we typically get in our food drives, because that’s typically nonperishable items,” CEO, Feeding SD, Lori Dykstra said.

That’s why Prairie Farms made a massive donation to the nonprofit.

“We did ten pallets of milk, 4050 units of 1% half gallons. We will do more donations as we move throughout the month,” General Manager, Prairie Farms, John Cooper said.

While you can see the milk donation, Prairie Farms is donating more than just that in honor of Dairy Month.

“For every dollar you donate this month, Prairie Farms is matching that dollar. So your donation is going to go twice as far,” Dykstra said.

Helping fill refrigerators across the state.

“A donation like, thousands of half gallons of milk is just amazing. We’re able to get those across the state to our neighbors facing hunger. And right now families have kids at home and so having healthy milk in the refrigerator is important,” Dykstra said.

“I think the main thing is really just being stewards and getting out into the community, helping the people, the families, the individuals who need assistance within our communities. And then also by bringing nutritious dairy products to those in need is vitally important for us and for the community,” Cooper said.
