Peru 2026 Elections: More than 27 million Peruvians vote in presidential runoff today | Noticias

More than 27 million Peruvians head to the polls today to elect the new President of the Republic in a runoff election.

Voting begins at 7:00 a.m. and concludes at 5:00 p.m. (local time).

According to the electoral roll, of the total number of eligible voters, 13.8 million are women and 13.6 million are men.

In addition, Lima has the largest number of voters (8,739,334), followed by regions La Libertad (1,565,056) and Piura (1,545,486).

Moreover, 2,518,576 people aged 18 to 22 are participating in a general election runoff for the first time, a figure that represents 36.5% of all young voters.

Peruvians residing abroad represent 1,210,813 voters, equivalent to 4.4% of the national electoral roll.

Polling tables

Some 92,766 polling tables are to be set up for the election.

A total of 2,260 polling places will be available in Metropolitan Lima and Callao region, most of them at schools and universities.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will set up 2,509 polling tables to ensure voting by compatriots abroad.

Elected authorities

The candidate elected president will be responsible for leading the country from the Executive Branch.

Armed Forces and Police

Some 45,000 Armed Forces personnel and 61,000 police agents will provide security during the election.

In addition, those personnel will be able to exercise their right to vote at the locations where they are assigned to provide security.
