V4 Chiefs of Staff Hold Meeting in Budapest

The chiefs of staff of the Visegrád Four—including Colonel General Zsolt Sándor—met in Budapest on June 3 to discuss current regional challenges and coordinate their common objectives. The meeting focused on technological issues in modern warfare, including defense against unmanned aerial vehicles, reported honvedelem.hu.

From July 1, 2025, to June 30, 2026, Hungary holds the presidency of the Visegrád Group (V4) for the seventh time. At one of the closing events of the rotating presidency, Colonel General Zsolt Sándor, Chief of the Hungarian Defense Staff, welcomed the military leaders of the allied countries—Poland, the Czech Republic, and Slovakia—with a military salute.

Following the official reception, Minister of Defense Dr. Romulusz Ruszin-Szendi received the generals for a courtesy visit in his office.

The meeting continued with plenary sessions at Stefánia Palace. During the discussions, alongside Colonel General Zsolt Sándor, Lieutenant General Miroslav Lorinc, Chief of the General Staff of the Slovak Armed Forces, Lieutenant General Miroslav Hlaváč of the Czech Armed Forces, and Lieutenant General Stanisław Czosnek, Deputy Chief of Staff of the Polish Army, reviewed the latest global and regional security challenges; the agenda also included the development of UAS (unmanned aerial vehicle systems, i.e., drones) and C-UAS (counter-UAS) capabilities.

The summit concluded with the handover of the rotating presidency, during which the Hungarian side symbolically handed over the gavel to Slovakia to coordinate military cooperation among the V4 countries for the coming year.
