Chief Justice Sharma pledges judicial reform and good governance

Kathmandu, June 2

Chief Justice (CJ) Dr Manoj Kumar Sharma asserted that he is committed to maintaining good governance and reform in the judicial sector. Speaking during a meeting with journalists from the Constitutional and Judicial Journalists Forum here today, CJ Sharma reaffirmed his commitment to work collaboratively with all stakeholders to improve the judiciary and enhance public confidence in the justice system.

Chief Justice Sharma, who recently assumed the position as the Head of the country’s highest court, reiterated, “The expectations of citizens from the judiciary, such as clean, impartial, prompt, high-quality, and effective justice delivery along with maintaining good governance, have been incorporated into my action plan.”

He admitted, “I have assumed this responsibility unexpectedly, and I am committed to proving my dedication through concrete actions.” The CJ vowed to consider the judiciary’s Fifth Five-Year Strategic Plan and Action Plan, which outlines key areas for institutional reform, as a foundation for his action plan to advance improvements across the judicial sector.

During the meeting, Forum’s Chairperson Kalika Khadka, its former Chairperson and office-bearers Yam Birahi, Leeladhar Upadhyay and Durga Dulal, among others, offered suggestions to the newly appointed Chief Justice on further strengthening the judicial system. They also emphasised the importance of ensuring that justice delivery remains impartial, accessible and timely, while enabling citizens to genuinely experience the rule of law.
