Kurnool police crack missing cases with AI-powered facial recognition network

In a major technological breakthrough in policing, Kurnool district police are using Artificial Intelligence-powered Facial Recognition System (FRS) technology to trace missing persons and monitor criminal activity with remarkable speed and accuracy. Superintendent of Police Vikrant Patil on Monday said the district police are achieving impressive results through the CCTNS AP 360 platform integrated with advanced smart surveillance systems. The cutting-edge technology is helping officers identify missing individuals within hours and reunite them safely with their families.

As part of the Andhra Pradesh Fiber Net Services initiative, nearly 15,000 analytics-based surveillance cameras have been installed across the state, including around 722 smart cameras across Kurnool district. These high-tech cameras are equipped with Facial Recognition System (FRS), Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR), and intelligent analytics tools capable of tracking suspicious movements in real time. The entire surveillance network is connected to the Real Time Governance Society (RTGS) control room in Amaravati and linked with district police control rooms and police stations through the CCTNS AP 360 application.

The advanced system has already delivered quick breakthroughs in several missing person cases. Police successfully traced a missing individual from Kurnool Taluk Police Station limits in Madanapalle, another from Peddakadubur police limits in Tirupati, and a person reported missing in Nandavaram police station limits was identified in Vijayawada before being safely reunited with family members. Officials explained that FRS cameras instantly scan and compare facial images with police database records, enabling faster detection and swift police response.

Beyond missing cases, the AI-enabled surveillance grid is emerging as a powerful weapon against crime in Kurnool district. The cameras are continuously monitoring crowded public places including bus stands, railway stations, hospitals, temples, mosques, stadiums, shopping complexes, market yards, and traffic junctions. Instant alerts on the movements of habitual offenders, absconding accused, and suspicious persons are being sent directly to the Kurnool Police Command Control Room. The SP appealed to citizens to immediately report missing persons or stolen vehicles, assuring that every complaint would receive immediate and priority action from the police department.
