Suspect held, gun recovered in Massade homicide investigation

Police have confirmed the apprehension of a suspect in connection with the shooting in Massade, Gros Islet, which claimed the life of 34-year-old Julian Cedric Aguil on Sunday.

Superintendent Eldeen Henry, Officer in Charge of the Northern Division, said the suspect was captured following an intense search launched shortly after the incident on Sunday, May 17, about 10:45 p.m.

According to Henry, police received a report of a shooting at Massade, Rosalie. Officers responded to the scene, but Aguil, a resident of Marisule, Gros Islet, had already been transported to the Gros Islet Polyclinic, where he was later pronounced dead by a medical practitioner.

Henry said the shooting stemmed from an altercation between cousins at the residence.

He explained that within 12 hours of the shooting, police tracked the suspect to a wooded area in Massade, where he was taken into custody.

During the arrest, officers also recovered a nine-millimetre pistol with two rounds of ammunition in his possession.

Superintendent Henry said investigations are ongoing.

He also commended officers of the Gros Islet Police Division and Police Headquarters for their efforts in locating and apprehending the suspect, and thanked members of the public who assisted in the operation.
