During a momentous tribute last week, Dr. McNamara’s significant contributions to helping this major regional insurance institute navigate the business landscape over the years were underscored, as was his dedicated service to the company for over three decades. He was recognized for his outstanding contributions, service, and legacy, earning the title of a distinguished son of the soil.

The occasion reflected on the well-deserved distinction afforded to an individual revered for his pride, honor, leadership, and dedication that have collectively left an indelible mark on this institution, Saint Lucia, and the broader Caribbean region.

Key personnel associated with the institution, including André Mousseau, Group President and CEO of Sagicor Financial Company Ltd., and Dr. Dodridge Miller, a former CEO now serving as a Director on several Sagicor Boards, along with other associates spoke favorably about Dr. McNamara’s work ethic and congenial personality.

Reflecting on Dr. McNamara’s journey, which began as a Board member with the Barbados Mutual (now Sagicor) in 1997, he noted, “The company was a proud, but modest, Barbados entity with a handful of offices across the region.”

What followed over the next two and a half decades was one of the most remarkable transformations in Caribbean corporate history, with Dr. McNamara at the center of it all. From director to vice-chairman and ultimately chairman, he guided Sagicor through a period defined by ambition, disciplined execution, and the belief that Caribbean institutions can confidently stand on the world stage.

The ceremony recognized his exceptional leadership and lasting contributions to finance, public service, and national development. As a respected figure with honors including CBE and LLD, Dr. McNamara’s legacy is celebrated through this tribute.
