On Monday (local time), US President Donald Trump rejected Iran’s peace proposal, stating that the ceasefire is on “life support”. He made these remarks while speaking to the media from the Oval Office during an event focused on maternal healthcare.
Trump asserted that Iran is currently at its weakest point in history, dismissing Tehran’s proposal as “garbage” and declaring it unacceptable. He stated, “The garbage they sent us—after reading it, I didn’t even finish the whole thing. They (Iran) are on life support. The ceasefire is largely on life support.”
Reiterating his claims regarding the military defeat of Iran, Trump asserted that whatever little progress Iran may have made during the ceasefire period, the US could “wipe it out in approximately one day.”
He further emphasized to the media that Iran is “very dangerous” and, therefore, must not be allowed to possess nuclear weapons. Trump said, “Iran cannot have nuclear weapons. They are very dangerous. They are very unstable.” The US President also lauded the blockade, describing it as an act of “military genius” and noting that Washington has amassed a superior stockpile of munitions—far better than what it possessed just two months ago, when it first launched its offensive.
He characterized the US actions as a “service” to the world and criticized previous administrations for their failure to take prompt action. He remarked, “We are performing this service for the world. And this has been going on for 47 years. Other presidents—and leaders of other nations who held the power—should have done this, but they did not.” Trump went on to claim that the Iranian leadership has been decimated on multiple levels, describing the proposal they submitted as “foolish.”
He stated, “To be honest, their leaders have been half-killed—at the first level, the second level, and the third level—and yet they come back wanting to negotiate, offering us a foolish proposal.” “No one would believe it—although Obama would have, and Biden would have.”
He claimed that the Iranians had asked the U.S. to remove the “nuclear dust” from the site because the facility had been “obliterated.” Trump asserted, “Iran pressed me very hard on this, because they wanted to hand over the ‘nuclear dust’ to us—as I call it. They told me, ‘You are getting this, but you have to remove it,’ because the site was so devastated that only one or two countries in the world possessed the capability to clear it.”
“It lies at such a depth and was struck with such force that they lack the equipment necessary to remove it. You (the U.S.) and China are the only two countries in the world capable of doing so. So we discussed the matter, and they (Iran) said, ‘You must remove it, because we do not have the capability to do so.’”
