Emphasis on WFH Cutbacks on Foreign Travel, and Advice on Organic Farming: PM Modi’s Appeal to the Nation

During his speech in Hyderabad, Prime Minister Narendra Modi appealed to the people of the country to reduce their consumption of petrol and diesel and to re-adopt the efficiency measures observed during the COVID-19 era. He stated that such steps are essential to cope with rising prices, which have been driven by global economic disruptions, supply chain challenges, and international conflicts. The Prime Minister urged everyone to join hands and contribute collectively to support the nation. He emphasized that patriotism is not merely about sacrificing one’s life for the country, but also about living responsibly during difficult times and fulfilling one’s duties toward the nation.

India continues to scale new heights of progress but at the same time there are several challenges we have to overcome.

In the national interest, PM Modi appealed for the resumption of COVID-era efficiency measures—including ‘Work from Home’ arrangements, online conferences, and virtual meetings. Additionally, he urged citizens to curtail foreign travel to conserve foreign exchange reserves and requested that they refrain from purchasing gold for a period of one year. These measures, too, would contribute significantly to saving foreign currency.

PM Modi’s Appeal to the Nation:

  • Reduce the consumption of petrol and diesel.
  • Utilize the Metro and public transportation wherever possible.
  • Opt for car-pooling when the use of private vehicles is unavoidable.
  • Prioritize railway transport for the movement of goods and commodities.
  • Increase the usage of electric vehicles wherever feasible.
  • Conserve fuel by utilizing ‘Work from Home’ arrangements, online conferences, and virtual meetings whenever possible.
  • Avoid non-essential foreign travel, vacations abroad, and weddings held overseas.
  • Choose domestic tourism and celebrations within India.
  • Refrain from purchasing non-essential gold for one year to alleviate the pressure on the outflow of foreign exchange.
  • Prioritize ‘Made-in-India’ and locally manufactured products—including daily-use items such as footwear, bags, and accessories.
  • Reduce the consumption of edible oils; this will benefit both the nation’s economic health and one’s personal health.
  • Farmers should reduce their usage of chemical fertilizers by 50 percent.
  • Adopt natural farming methods.
  • Help preserve soil health and reduce the nation’s dependence on imports.
  • Promote the greater adoption of solar-powered irrigation pumps—as opposed to diesel-powered pumps—in agricultural practices.
