Couple plead guilty to hiding foetus in car | Malaysia

A YOUNG couple pleaded guilty at the Ayer Keroh Magistrate’s Court today to charges of hiding the birth of a baby and taking medication to prevent it from being born alive, last month.

Accused Adam Harith Ahmad, 18, and his 17-year-old 10-month-old girlfriend made the plea before Magistrates Sharda Shienha Mohd Suleiman and Uthman Abd Ghani after the charge was read out by a court interpreter.

According to the charge, against Adam Harith, he was charged with secretly hiding the birth of a baby by wrapping the baby, which was dead upon delivery, before placing it in the bonnet of a car.

The offence was allegedly committed in Kampung Batu Gajah, Merlimau, Jasin at around 11.40 pm on April 25.

For the offence, the accused was charged under Section 318 of the Penal Code, which provides for a prison sentence of up to two years or a fine or both if convicted.

Earlier, Deputy Public Prosecutor, Syaza Nur Sharif, proposed bail of RM15,000, but lawyer Mohd. Farid Abdul Aziz appealed for a lower bail on the grounds that his client was still young and that his mother was a pensioner and a single mother who also looked after the accused’s grandmother.

The court then allowed the accused to be bailed at RM3,500 and set June 10 for mention of the case while awaiting a moral report from the Social Welfare Department (JKM).

Meanwhile, in separate proceedings before Magistrate Uthman Abd. Ghani, his girlfriend, also pleaded guilty to a charge of taking Misoprostol with the intention of preventing the baby from being born alive.

The offence was allegedly committed in a room in Taman Sutera Wangi, Batu Berendam, Melaka Tengah at about 10 am on April 25.

The prosecution was conducted by Prosecuting Officer, Inspector Nur Zaidah Muhamad Zailani, under Section 315 of the Penal Code which provides for a prison sentence of up to 10 years or a fine or both if convicted.

The court allowed the teenage girl bail of RM1,500 and set July 9 to obtain a JKM moral report.

It was earlier reported that a teenage boy hid his girlfriend’s foetus in a car before planning to bury it in the backyard of the house, which was revealed after he was arrested by the police last month. – May 8, 2026
