Major General Abdulwahab Al-Wahib, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Interior, chaired an extensive coordination meeting on Thursday with officials from the Directorate-General of Traffic and representatives of major public transport companies, as part of ongoing efforts to modernize Kuwait’s transport system and ease traffic congestion across the country.
In a press statement, the Ministry of Interior said the meeting reflects the ministry’s commitment to strengthening communication and cooperation with vital sectors to improve services provided to the public and facilitate smoother traffic movement on Kuwait’s roads.
Discussions focused on plans to transform the country’s public transport network from its traditional framework into a modern and integrated system aligned with Kuwait’s urban development goals.
Officials emphasized that the initiative aims to promote a stronger public transport culture and encourage residents to rely more on buses and other mass transit options in their daily commutes, helping to reduce traffic congestion significantly.
Participants also reviewed mechanisms related to bus operations, route organization, and solutions to operational challenges facing transport providers.
The talks further explored strategies to make public transportation a more attractive, efficient, and safe option for passengers while ensuring full compliance with traffic regulations.
At the conclusion of the meeting, Major General Al-Wahib stressed the importance of maintaining close coordination and joint cooperation between the Ministry and transport companies to implement the proposed development plans and recommendations.
He affirmed the ministry’s commitment to mobilize all available resources and adopting best practices in the public transport sector to ensure smoother traffic flow and achieve the highest standards of road safety and security for all road users.
The meeting was attended by Brigadier Abdullah Al-Ateeqi, Head of the Traffic and Operations Sector, along with several senior security officials from the Traffic Affairs Sector. Representatives from public transport companies also took part, highlighting a unified effort among concerned parties to overcome challenges and develop effective transport solutions for the future.
