A major tragedy was narrowly averted on Monday night in Krishnapur, located within the Ballia Nala area. Late at night, a massive boulder tumbled down into a densely populated residential zone. A car and several two-wheelers sustained severe damage after being struck by the falling boulder. Fortunately, the boulder fell late at night; had this incident occurred during the day, it could have resulted in significant loss of human life. The boulder-fall incident sparked outrage among local residents, who staged a protest against alleged administrative negligence. Consequently, the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) was compelled to visit the site.
Boulder Falls from Hillside in Nainital
Late at night, a massive boulder broke loose from the hillside in the Krishnapur area—which adjoins the Ballia Nala region of Nainital—and crashed into a residential locality. The incident completely wrecked a car, while several motorcycles and scooters were also caught in its path. Local residents reported that during the incident, several people narrowly escaped being struck by the falling boulder. In the aftermath of the event, palpable anger is now evident among the local populace.
Local Residents Stage Protest
Late that night, an administrative team relocated several families residing in the affected zone to an alternative location to prevent any major mishap from occurring during the night. However, on the day following the incident, when administrative officials failed to arrive at the site, the locals’ anger erupted. Protesting against the administration, residents raised vociferous slogans and staged a road blockade on Haldwani Road. As a result, traffic movement remained disrupted for a considerable period.
