The Central Government has approved a new rail service between Ramnagar and Dehradun. The operation of this train will enhance connectivity for the Garhwal and Kumaon regions.
MP Anil Baluni had urged Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw to launch a new rail service connecting Ramnagar and Dehradun. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw informed MP Baluni of the approval for the new train service through a letter. The MP stated that this new service would make it easier for the people of the region to travel to Dehradun, thereby saving both time and money.
In his letter to the Railway Minister dated January 5, 2026, Baluni had requested the introduction of a direct train service between Ramnagar and Dehradun. He had pointed out that, currently, there is no direct rail link between the two cities, compelling passengers to undertake journeys via longer routes.
Baluni remarked that both Ramnagar and Dehradun are significant hubs for working professionals. A large number of workers, students, and businesspeople travel between these two cities on a daily basis. The new train service will provide them with a direct and convenient travel option. He added that this approval symbolizes the Central Government’s commitment to the development of Uttarakhand, and that the state’s rail network would be further strengthened in the times to come.
