Hungary’s incoming prime minister Péter Magyar said he had held a useful and constructive meeting with António Costa, President of the European Council.
Magyar reported on the discussion in a post on social media, noting that the talks focused on Hungary’s relationship with the European Union and the restoration of mutual trust. He emphasised that rebuilding cooperation between Hungary and EU institutions will be a key priority for his future government.
According to Magyar, both sides agreed that Hungary’s access to EU funds is essential for strengthening the country’s economy and supporting development projects. He added that restoring transparent and predictable governance will play a crucial role in unlocking these resources.
He also stated that the meeting addressed Hungary’s commitment to European values, including the rule of law and responsible financial management. Magyar underlined that his government intends to pursue policies that reinforce Hungary’s position within the European community while promoting national interests.
Magyar described the talks as an important step toward rebuilding confidence between Hungary and European partners, adding that continued dialogue with EU leaders will remain a priority in the coming period.
