The Telugu states are enduring intense heat, with temperatures soaring beyond 45 degrees Celsius in many regions, causing widespread discomfort due to the oppressive humidity. Amidst this, the Meteorological Department has issued an update on the weather conditions affecting Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
It explained that a trough, extending from South Interior Karnataka across Tamil Nadu to the Gulf of Mannar at an altitude of 0.9 km above mean sea level, is influencing current weather patterns, bringing the possibility of scattered rainfall.
The Amaravati Meteorological Centre has forecasted that Andhra Pradesh will experience varied weather over the next three days. In North Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam, light to moderate rains or thundershowers are expected at one or two places on Thursday, with thunderstorms featuring lightning and gusty winds reaching 50–60 km per hour. Similar conditions are predicted for Friday and Saturday, with winds at 40–50 km per hour.
South Coastal Andhra Pradesh is also forecasted to see light to moderate rains and thunderstorms during the same period, accompanied by lightning and discomfort due to heat and humidity. Rayalaseema can expect light to moderate showers and thunderstorms on Thursday, with gusty winds of 40–50 kmph, easing slightly on Friday and Saturday to winds of 30–40 kmph.
Notably, the maximum temperatures across Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, and Rayalaseema are unlikely to change significantly over the next week. In Telangana, the Hyderabad Meteorological Centre reported that the same atmospheric trough extends from South Interior Karnataka to Tamil Nadu, with an additional anticyclonic circulation forming over interior Maharashtra and adjoining Telangana at an altitude of 3.1 km. These conditions suggest continued heat with the possibility of isolated showers over the coming days.
