Union Minister Pemmasani Chandrasekhar has issued a warning to the public to stay alert against emerging cyber scams linked to the so-called “digital arrest”. He explained that cybercriminals, impersonating police officers, are using video calls to intimidate individuals and extort money.
Chandrasekhar advised people to be cautious and to report any suspicious activity by calling the helpline number 1930. To raise awareness, he shared a video on the social media platform ‘X’.
In his message, he said, “Beware of Digital Arrest Scams! Criminals are now posing as police or government officials, using video calls to threaten and extort. Never answer anonymous calls, click on suspicious links, or share OTPs. If you suspect anything, contact your local police or the cyber helpline at 1930. Stay vigilant, stay safe. One click can change your life – think carefully.”
