CASPER, Wyo. — The City of Casper will apply for a Wyoming Office of Homeland Security grant to fund training for hazardous material emergencies, the City Council agreed at its Tuesday work session.
According to Fire Chief Jacob Black, the $10,300 grant would allow Casper Fire-EMS Department personnel to participate in multi-jurisdictional exercises designed to strengthen emergency preparedness across the region. The planned training includes a 10-hour exercise hosted in Converse County and a 12-hour exercise in Niobrara County. To increase accessibility and cost efficiency for local responders, Casper Fire-EMS also intends to host a localized version of the training in Natrona County.
Black added that the training activities will have no additional financial impact on the city, as the program is 100% grant-funded and utilizes remaining balances from the 2022–23 grant cycle to support ongoing emergency readiness.
“This should be a good opportunity for us,” Black said.
