One half of Josh & Jase, the British social duo known for documenting their adventures in the United States, is currently making his way across Arkansas. Jase is exploring the state for the first time, having so far dined in Little Rock and visited Hot Springs, while Josh stays home with his newborn baby.
“He genuinely thinks no one’s going to watch or want to see him travel solo, and it’s so sad,” Josh said in a video. “It breaks my heart to hear my best mate, my brother, speak like that. I said to him, ‘People love you, mate. People love you.’ All I ask, and I know you guys will, is just show him so much love this trip. Show him how loved he really is.”

The pair did not seem to know much about Arkansas when they picked the state at random with the spin of a wheel. Josh mispronounced the name — he corrected himself in a later video — and said, “What is there? I’ve honestly no idea,” while Jase remarked that, “The flag looks cool.”
However, Jase soon found much to love about the Natural State, posting a video of Thorncrown Chapel in Eureka Springs during the lead-up to the trip.
“Sorry, this is Arkansas?” he said. “That may be one of the most beautiful buildings I’ve ever seen.”
Jase touched down April 15 and grabbed a bite to eat at Camp Taco in Little Rock, where he ordered the quesabirria.
“It’s a bit of a vibe in here, actually,” he said. “Look at this — very rustic.”
While he enjoyed his first dinner in Arkansas, he seemed perplexed by what fans suggested he eat for breakfast — chocolate biscuits and gravy.
“I’ve just landed in Arkansas, and people are telling me here that they eat chocolate gravy and biscuits for breakfast — for breakfast,” he said. “Isn’t biscuits and gravy your national dish? Why are you changing it?”
For the record, the U.S. does not have a national dish, but it is likely most Arkansans would consider biscuits and gravy to be a good choice. Jase got a chance to sample the chocolate version of the Southern staple after arriving in Hot Springs, where he visited Phil’s Restaurant, which he called a “proper American diner.”
When the dish arrived — two biscuits with a bowl of chocolate gravy on the side — Jase dunked a biscuit into the gravy, saying, “This feels like Willy Wonka made an American breakfast.”
“My brain is confused,” he said after taking a bite. “I’m meant to be eating biscuits and gravy, but it’s sweet.”
He then made his way to the city’s eponymous hot springs, where he marveled at the steam they generated. Touching the water, Jase appeared fascinated but apprehensive.
“Is this like God’s bath? God’s hot tub?” he asked.
Jase is sure to find much more to love about Arkansas, where he is scheduled to be until April 28. Follow his adventures on social media.
