Guwahati: The supply of LPG cylinders and petroleum products across Assam remains “fully normal and under control,” with authorities urging citizens to avoid panic buying as stocks remain adequate and distribution systems continue to function smoothly.
According to an official press brief issued on Friday, the state currently has sufficient reserves, with petrol stock available for 21 days and diesel for 46 days. “The supply of all petroleum products, including petrol, diesel, and LPG, in the state of Assam is fully normal and under control.
“Uninterrupted supply is being ensured through the state’s robust infrastructure, continuous monitoring system, and effective coordination with State Government officials,” the statement said.
Assam’s fuel distribution network comprises 1,737 retail outlets, including 1,461 operated by Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) and 276 private outlets, supported by nine depots. On average, 2,935 kilolitres of petrol and 3,670 kilolitres of diesel are supplied daily.

Officials noted that sales remain consistent with consumption trends observed between January and March 2026, indicating stable demand. “All OMC retail outlets are functioning normally, and there are no restrictions on sales. Therefore, citizens are advised to avoid panic buying,” the statement added.
LPG supply has also remained steady, catering to approximately 9.3 million consumers through 604 distributors and seven bottling plants. Around 1.39 lakh refills are delivered daily, with a backlog of 4.28 days being cleared as per scheduled bookings. No instances of stock shortages or “dry-out” have been reported.
Authorities highlighted a sharp increase in digital adoption, with 84 per cent of LPG bookings now made online, compared to 49 per cent two months ago. Delivery Authentication Code (DAC) compliance has also risen to 72 per cent.
Consumers have been encouraged to continue using digital platforms and verify deliveries through DAC to ensure transparency.
Meanwhile, enforcement agencies have stepped up action against hoarding and illegal diversion. Over the past month, 319 inspections were conducted, leading to the seizure of 274 cylinders, one FIR, and three arrests.
Disciplinary action has also been taken against erring distributors, with 88 show-cause notices issued and six distributors suspended.
The government reiterated that strict monitoring is in place and assured uninterrupted supply, stating that the situation remains stable across the state.
