Agartala: Tripura royal scion and Tipra Motha Party founder Pradyot Kishore Debbarman on Saturday alleged that a few BJP leaders with roots in Left politics had misled Tripura Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha ahead of the TTAADC elections, leading to misunderstandings between the BJP and Tipra Motha, allies in the BJP-led coalition government in the state.
Speaking to reporters after a courtesy visit to the Lok Bhavan, Debbarman said, “I think there are many good people in the BJP. There are one or two people who misled the honourable Chief Minister, leading to misunderstandings between the coalition partners. I think the Chief Minister has seen the results and should closely monitor the activities of these two to three people who migrated from CPI(M) and are now trying to backstab and misguide the BJP.”
He said there was no logic in alliance partners trying to weaken each other politically. “If BJP and Tipra Motha are in alliance, there is no point in trying to break each other’s parties. The public is intelligent and knows who has stood firmly for the rights of the people and who has misused power,” he added.
Reacting to reported remarks about possible legal action against Tipra Motha leaders, Debbarman said such comments appeared to be personal opinions rather than the BJP’s official stand. “This must be the Chief Minister’s personal view that legal action will be taken against Tipra Motha leaders. I don’t think it is the official position of the BJP. No one can seize power forcefully,” he said.
When asked about the low-profile role of Minister Animesh Debbarma during the TTAADC poll campaign, Debbarman declined to comment publicly. “Animesh Debbarma has been with Tipra Motha for the last five and a half years. He became the Deputy CEM, was later made the Leader of Opposition and also a Minister. I will speak to him privately. I do not wish to comment on him in the media,” he said.
On his meeting with the Governor, Debbarman said the Governor, as custodian of the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC), would examine the election results and issue the notification for formation of the new council.
“I have come on a courtesy visit. The Governor will complete the due process, and once the notification is issued, we shall form the council,” he said.
He also expressed concern over incidents of post-poll violence, describing them as unfortunate, and said senior police officials, including the DGP and SP, were in regular contact with him. He thanked the police for their efforts to maintain law and order.
Debbarman appealed to political workers to avoid confrontation despite political differences and said he would continue meeting party workers and working for the people of the state.
